Print Collections

The sun rises beyond the east windows right over my kitchen sink, filling the eastern sky with embers. Frost crystals appear on these windows during the night taking on fantastic shapes: plants, animals, wild humans, or strange aliens. Once in a while they appear as you'd expect - crystal snowflakes on the window. Sunrise glows between and around the crystals, creating nature's impressionistic paintings. These prints capture impressionistic visions, often appearing nothing like photos, yet they are accurate photographs of nature's real art.

After sunrise the crystals don't have long to live before the sun's energy raises their temperature to the point that they sag and melt back to liquid. Frost is fleeting.

This first collection of four prints contains my favorite photographs of dawn frost on my windows. Frost forms during the colder six months of our Northern Vermont winter. I'm uniquely fortunate that my windows offer the spectacular effects of the sun rising directly behind the frost. Sadly these phantasms are short lived. Each morning I better rise and photograph before they melt.

The Art in Ice Frost Series Collection

My other collection of frost prints begins with photographs of frost on my windows at dawn. Then I create a kaleidoscopic image out of each one by mirroring four copies of the original in Photoshop to create a spectacular effect. The original fractal paterns in the frost combine to reveal new, intricate, kaleidoscopic patterns in the mirrored ice crystals. In this way nature's creation of fractals in ice crystals are enhanced so we can become aware of more of those patterns intrinsic to those frost crystals.

Each collection is available in the 5"x7 size for $16, or in the borderless 8 1/2"x11" size for $40, or the borderless 13"x19" size for $80 Each collection includes four prints. Singly they are available 5"x7" for $10, 8.5"x11" for $15, and 13"x19" for $25. Shipping is included in these prices. Custom made frames from Vermont hardwoods are also available.

I�m selling a vintage framed Tapestry of the TAJ MAHAL which was displayed in my friends� Harvard Travel Business in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. He received it as a gift from a business associate in India many years ago and now wants to sell it.

The tapestry was professionally framed in MA and condition is mint. The frame has a gold gilt trim and background for the tapestry looks like a dense rigid burgundy fabric. During the framing process, he recalls that the framer stitched the tapestry from behind & it has remained intact for decades. Measurements are: frame size is 37 � x 35.5� and tapestry is approximately 30 � x 24�.

The Taj Mahal is the most well preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb in the world and this tapestry underlines the symmetry as a whole and denotes a true labor of love.

I tried doing research on eBay & also on Google but I never found anything like it online. The embroidery is stunning and has many inlaid gems/stones incorporated. The Taj Mahal has a three dimensional look & I do think this is a rare find. The pictures do not do justice to this work of art. My guess is that this is Zari embroidery but I can�t be sure. The pictures do not do justice to this unusual tapestry. Unfortunately I am limited on Craigslist regarding the amount of pictures I can display but if you are serious about purchasing it, please send me your email address & I can forward a series of photos with reduced file size.

Robert Cronin paints strong, narrative works of people caught in curious, passing moments. A storyteller of wit and sophistication, each painting -- often quiet in mood with a tender blend of humor and sentiment -- is like a short story that one takes in at a glance, and successive canvases seem to carry on story lines.

Some artists have a knack for describing the figure in a way that is both convincing and inventive. Rousseau and Giotto come to mind. Cronin�s figures are not idealized; they have the presence of actual people, but they move and interact in a way that speaks of great significance, somewhat like mythological figures. The artist builds his composition with figures and props in a bold, almost classical manner, and his colors back up this grandeur. This is often at odds with the simple themes of his paintings, but there is merit to the artist�s idea that theatricality can live side by side with the ordinary interaction of people.

Cronin was born in Lexington, Massachusetts and attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his B.F.A in painting. He earned his M.F. A. at Cornell University in Ithaca, He has exhibited his work since 1958 and is represented in museum collections across the country.

It is signed "R. Cronin-93" in the red section of the sofa above the dog's foot. Original bill of sale is available.

Robert Cronin is listed in Davenport's and the Artist Bluebook.

His paintings are in the collections of The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Carnegie Institute, The National Air and Space Musuem and private collections, worldwide.

Exhibitions of his work include The Institute of Contempory Art, Boston,Gimpel Fils, Boston, The Zabriskie Gallery, New York City, The Klonarididis Gallery, Toronoto

His paintings sell in the $5,000-$15,000 range. This is a nice opportunity to acquire a Robert Cronin painting or add to your collection at a nice price.
