The good:

The hull is in good condition... great classic look!

Seats, full camper canvas and floor cover are all original and look good.

Controls, steering and hardware is original and look good.

Trailer is in great shape, tows easy.


What needs help:

The engine has great compression, and it was running Sunday... but it was a chore with the pull start (and my sore back). I haven't switched to the electric starter from the Johnson , but that would certainly help!.
Carb needs final adjustments (on the water is required for final).

Small spot on the floor that'll need attention someday.

The engine cowl was repaired from being dropped, but it doesn't effect the operation

This is an excellent wooden canoe with slick canvas covering.
Has been in our family for 50 years, may be 100 years old.
There's one exactly like this at the Maritime Museum at Basin Harbor, Vermont, except that one is about 20' long.
Ours is bright red, in good condition, and it really is fast due to its sleek design.
I've paddled (and owned) both, and this is way faster than a Grumman canoe. Doesn't drag the lake along behind it like a Grumman, and glides and coasts better.
Would be great in a canoe race where not a lot of portaging is necessary.
Not as tippy as most canoes due to the cork-filled floats built in to the sides.
Has hole for attaching a mast for sailing.
No rot! Has minor tear(s) in canvas on top surface of sponsons (see photos).
Heavier than most contemporary canoes and may require two people to carry, though I can carry it short distances.
