☛ ☛ ☛ Top city official in Christmas nightmare (Burlington City Hall)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when HallerLee was a ghost

Not a permit was visible, so Bruce Baker became toast.

Then garage doors were hung, by the couple with dare,

In false dreams that a permit, soon would be there.

The Bakers were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of Cohens, hurt their heads;

Mary cried in her kerchief, and Bruce shed a tear,

As they realized the worst, they owed tax in arrear.

When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter,

Bruce sprang from his bed, to see what was the matter.

Away to the window, Mary flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters, and threw up on the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the luster of mid-day, to objects below,

When, what should appear, Bruce thought he would die -

A municipal inspector, who wouldn’t accept another lie.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

Bruce prayed to the mayor, that it was only a trick.

But more rapid than eagles his nightmares they came,

And the inspector, he whistled, and called them by name;

"Now, Bruce! Now, Mary! You have no permit to see!

“So I must tell you, close down HallerLee.”

Now the Cohens have proved, without a shred of a doubt

That you didn’t have a permit, no matter your pout.

So dash away! dash away! dash away lame!

Your lies have preceded you, and gone down the drain.

When they meet with an obstacle, and mount to the sky,

The Bakers they lie, no matter how high.

With the sleigh full of lies, and Peter Potts, his too.

The Bakers only deny, oh they do, yes they do.

The whining and whining, of each little lie,

Will keep Santa away, while the Bakers just cry.

Down the chimney the police, came with a cite.

To show Bruce Baker, they were the ones with real might.

The love of the house, is all tarnished with goo;

So much for the Bakers', dream of 842.

Bruce looks like a louse, to all his friends in City Hall,

How could he be so important, and then just fall?

Mary’s eyes -- how they twinkled when she bought 842!

But now she knows, the dream is all through.

Bruce’s droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the skin of his face, was as white as the snow;

The stump of a dream, held tight in his head,

Keeps him up at night, but now only in dread.

He once had a smile, and a law practice so nice,

But now it’s all gone, and just as cold as ice.

He was the pride of Wake Forest, the law school he does miss,

Because now his problem, is the Mayor Robert Kiss.

A tear in Bruce’s eye and a shake of his head,

Each night follows him, to the edge of the bed.

Oh Mary Oh Mary, I’m in such a sad fit.

When we should have, should have, just got a permit.

But it’s too late now, to make everything right,

Because I know worst, the Cohens’ll keep up the fight.

I offered them money, to shut them both up,

But blog away, blog away, I just filled up their cup.

They have yet more evidence, to get me in trouble,

They clearly figured out, I can’t hide in my bubble.

I've thought about moving, but there's too much ado,

I’ve heard them exclaim, as they’ve blogged all the right,"Happy Christmas to Bruce and Mary, at 842!"

BURLINGTON, VT. - A new zoning complaint has been filed with City Hall against Planning Board Vice Chairman Bruce D. Baker.

The new charge is that Baker - a lawyer - did construction on his house at 842 South Prospect Street without a zoning permit.

Records on file in City Hall show that Baker applied for a permit Nov. 30 - after he did the work.

Not only that - but in the permit request Baker attached photos showing that the work had already been done.

In other words, he supplies his own smoking gun.

Zoning laws also point out that anyone who applies for a zoning permit may also need a building permit.

So Baker is currently one permit short of a full deck - and maybe two.

This is the second of two complaints targeting Baker.

He persuaded city officials to "rescind" a notice of violation issued against him after he was cited for operating an illegal home occupation, a company doing business as HallerLee HR Consulting LLC.

HallerLee is owned by his wife, Mary Margaret Lee.

In documents just released by City Hall, new city records reveal that Planning Commission Vice Chairman Bruce Baker performed repairs on his house WITHOUT a legal permit.

Baker submitted a REQUEST for a zoning permit on Nov. 30.

What is astounding is his admission on that very document that the WORK HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE.

Baker admits on the permit "REQUEST" that he "REPLACED" - past tense - the garage doors on his house.

Folks, by law he was supposed to apply for a permit BEFORE DOING ANY WORK.

This latest violation now makes it mandatory that Mayor Bob Kiss immediately remove Baker from his membership on the city Planning Commission.

We also must note that the very day that he applied for an AFTER-THE-FACT permit, he called The Cohens (bloggers whose blog is posted below) asking us if we wanted money to shut us up.

What was THAT all about?

Did he think his world was crashing down on him?

Well, it is!

Do you have a job where you don't have to show up?

If you want a job like that apply for one in Burlington City Hall.

Planning Commission Vice Chairman Bruce D. Baker (photo below) has been absent from SIX commission meetings in SIX months, thereby violating the city's attendance policy:

May 12, 2009: Baker Absent
May 26, 2009: Baker Absent
August 25, 2009: Baker Absent
September 9, 2009: Baker Absent
October 27, 2009: Baker Absent
November 10, 2009: Baker Absent

How does he get away with shirking his duty like this?

Mayor Bob Kiss must look into this and demand Baker's resignation, although Baker's failure to attend meetings is tantamount to his quitting.

The mayor needs to appoint someone who will do the job and not pretend to do the job.

BULLETIN

Baker asks, “Do you want money?”

By TED COHEN

BURLINGTON – Embattled Planning Commission Vice Chairman Bruce Baker called Monday, asking “what do you want?”
Dan Cohen, co-author of a blog (link below) that cites Baker's illegal home business, said he received the call at 3:27 p.m. Nov. 30 from Baker.
“What do you want?” Baker asked Cohen.
Cohen told him, “I want an admission from you that you ran an illegal business from your house.”
“Where will that get you?” Baker asked, never taking the chance to even try to deny that he ran a home occupation without a permit.
Cohen told him, “I’m not trying to get anywhere.”
Baker replied, “What do you want? Is it money? What do you want?”
“No,” Cohen told him, “I don’t want money. I want you to admit you ran an illegal business.”
The call ended at that point because Cohen had other matters to attend to.
